Aizawl: In a significant drug bust, three individuals, including a woman, were arrested in Champhai town of south Mizoram with heroin valued at Rs 83.7 lakh, according to a statement by the Assam Rifles.

The accused, identified as Samuel Lalchawimawia (25), Lalchhanhima (20), and Rebecca Laldingliani (23), were apprehended during a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department on Tuesday.

The operation led to the recovery of 119 grams of heroin, concealed by the accused. The seized contraband highlights the ongoing challenge of drug trafficking in the region, which shares a porous international border.

The three individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the narcotics and any potential links to larger trafficking networks.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against drug smuggling in the region to curb the illegal trade.
