Three Arrested Over Missing Firearm and Ammunition from IRBn Facility in Arunachal Pradesh

Seijosa, Arunachal Pradesh: In a recent development, three individuals, including two personnel from the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), were arrested following the disappearance of a firearm and ammunition from the 3rd IRBn Battalion Headquarters.

The incident came to light after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Seijosa police station on October 21, 2024.

Superintendent of Police (SP) for Pakke-Kessang, Tasi Darang, confirmed that the case involved a 9 mm pistol and 11 live rounds of ammunition that were reported missing from the central Kote facility.

The facility, located within the IRBn Headquarters, was found to have been broken into, raising concerns over the security of the armory.

Upon receiving the report, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Sang Thinley and supervised by SP Darang was formed to investigate the incident.

Their swift action resulted in the arrest of two IRBn constables, Phuntso Dondup (30) and Haricharan Boro (31), along with a civilian accomplice, Md Babul Ali (35).

The investigation revealed that the accused individuals had concealed the missing pistol in a bush at a remote location in Kekakuli village, Sonitpur district, Assam.

Following their arrest, the police recovered the weapon based on the information provided by the suspects. Further searches led to the discovery of the missing 11 live rounds, which were found hidden at Constable Boro’s rented residence in Seijosa.

All the missing arms and ammunition have been successfully recovered, and the suspects are currently in police custody.

The authorities are conducting further inquiries to determine the motive behind the theft and to ascertain if there are any additional accomplices involved.

The case has highlighted concerns over the security protocols at the IRBn Battalion Headquarters, and officials are expected to review and strengthen measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
