Three Congress MLAs in Meghalaya Join NPP Amid Party Turmoil
In a significant political shift, three Meghalaya MLAs—Charles Marngar of Mawhati, Gabriel Wahlang of Nongstoin, and Celestine Lyngdoh of Umsning—have officially joined the National People’s Party (NPP). This move comes in the wake of the suspension of Marngar and Wahlang by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on August 16, citing their alleged involvement in anti-party activities and their alignment with the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
Celestine Lyngdoh, who had not faced suspension, also opted to depart from the Congress, joining his fellow legislators in the NPP. The three leaders, accompanied by a large group of supporters, were warmly received at the NPP’s newly inaugurated office.
This development marks a notable realignment in Meghalaya’s political landscape, as the NPP continues to consolidate its position within the state, bolstered by the addition of prominent figures from the opposition.
