Three Elephants Electrocuted Near Guwahati Outskirts
Guwahati, 4th August: Early reports surfaced on Friday morning of a tragic incident on the outskirts of Guwahati. As many as three elephants were killed after coming into contact with a high-voltage electricity line.
The tragedy happened in Panichanda, Rani Tea Estate, a village located in Assam’s remote Kamrup district. It is located within the Rani Forest Office’s jurisdiction.
The wild tuskers had ventured out of the forest in search of food but met a tragic fate when they were electrocuted by the electricity line.
Officials from Rani Forest Division responded to the scene upon receiving alerts from locals who found the elephant carcasses.
The local community expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the deaths. They also performed rituals since elephants hold revered status in Hindu mythology.
