Three Militants Killed in Assam-Mizoram Border Encounter
Guwahati, 17th July: Three militants were killed in an intense encounter with security forces in Assam’s Cachar district late on July 16. The confrontation occurred in the Bhuban Hills, located on the Assam-Mizoram border.
Earlier in the day, security forces had arrested three militants in Dhalai Ganga Nagar, Cachar. Following the arrests, a team led by Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta, along with the detained militants, proceeded to the Bhuban Hills.
As the operation unfolded, militants hiding in the hills opened fire on the approaching security personnel, prompting a retaliatory response. The ensuing exchange of gunfire lasted for approximately an hour, resulting in the deaths of three militants. Two of the deceased militants were from Cachar, while the third was from Manipur.
During the encounter, three policemen sustained injuries, and a Cachar police vehicle was damaged. The situation remains under close observation as authorities await further details.
