Three Nabbed at Agartala Railway Station with Nine Kilos of Cannabis
AGARTALA: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Tripura, on Sunday night arrested three individuals and seized nine kilograms of cannabis from their possession at the Agartala Railway Station. The operation, a result of heightened vigilance, underscores the authorities’ commitment to stamping out the illicit trade flourishing along rail networks.
The drama unfolded late in the evening when GRP personnel, conducting a routine patrol, grew suspicious of three individuals loitering on the station premises. Their uneasy demeanour prompted a thorough check of their belongings, leading to the shocking discovery of a large stash of ganja. The recovered narcotics are estimated to have a street value of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh.
The apprehended trio has been identified as Prahlad Kumar (36) and Ravita Devi (38), both hailing from Bhagalpur, Bihar, and Janmojoy Nunia (25) from Barakhai, Assam. This inter-state nexus highlights the complex and far-reaching nature of the drug trade.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered against the accused at the Agartala GRP Station under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “Further investigation is on to unearth the larger network behind this operation,” a GRP official stated, indicating that more arrests could be on the cards. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the continuous challenges faced by law enforcement in securing railway routes and a testament to their unwavering efforts to ensure public safety.
