Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF) Urges Tripura Governor for Enhanced Educational Facilities and Cultural Inclusion

The Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), the student wing of the Tipra Motha Party, recently met with Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu to advocate for crucial improvements in the state’s educational infrastructure. During the meeting, the TISF submitted a memorandum outlining demands for enhanced facilities and the promotion of cultural heritage within schools, underscoring the challenges faced by students across Tripura.

A key aspect of the TISF’s proposal is the call for dedicated libraries in all educational institutions, addressing the current lack of study materials and resources that TISF leaders observed during visits to various schools and colleges. The memorandum details numerous infrastructural shortfalls, such as inadequate restrooms, insufficient drinking water facilities, poor seating, and unreliable electricity, all of which the TISF says hinder students’ academic experience.

The memorandum further highlighted the need for inclusive learning environments where students from all backgrounds—regardless of religion, community, caste, or tribe—can access educational resources equitably. Emphasizing cultural identity, the TISF also proposed that “Rignai,” the traditional attire of the indigenous community, be incorporated into the school dress code twice a week. This, they argue, would foster respect for cultural heritage and pride among young people.

The TISF’s demands include improvements in seating arrangements, reliable water connectivity, clean and accessible restrooms—especially for female students—and classrooms equipped with basic educational facilities. These changes, the federation asserts, are essential for fostering a supportive and inclusive educational environment.

In their meeting, the TISF members expressed optimism, stating that addressing these issues would benefit the future generations of Tripura and promote progress for all students in the state. They voiced their respect for other communities and highlighted their willingness to work constructively with authorities to achieve these objectives.

The Governor has yet to respond publicly to the TISF’s memorandum, but the students’ group remains hopeful that the appeal will lead to tangible improvements across Tripura’s educational institutions.
