TIPRA Motha chief: Centre to appoint interlocutor for ‘constitutional solution’
Guwahati: TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had chosen to appoint an interlocutor for the “constitutional solution” of the indigenous people of Tripura.
Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met for an hour at the state guest house before making the statement soon after the oath-taking ceremony for the BJP government.
Following the meeting, Pradyot reported that the Home Minister has commenced the procedure for a constitutional remedy for the indigenous people of Tripura.
“An interlocutor for this process will be appointed and this will be within a specific time frame. I thank the Home Minister for understanding the genuine problems of the Son of the soil. We successfully got our Bru people rehabilitation in our state after 23 years by signing the Bru accord and today we have started a huge dialogue to ensure that our survival and existence are protected. Issues such as alliance and cabinet were never discussed only the interest of our dopha was discussed”, he said.
BJP NE coordinator Sambit Patra declared during the meeting that Dr. Manik Saha’s swearing-in as Tripura’s new chief minister marked a significant day for the state of Tripura.
“We had a meeting with TIPRA Motha leaders including Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma. In the meeting a comprehensive discussion was held on the development of tribal people in the state and how we can solve their problems and can give them more respect and dignity”, he said.
He added that Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Saha had promised to have a series of discussions with local political parties and other NGOs to find a solution.
However, Sambit asserted that the demands of TIPRA Motha were not considered in the meeting.
