TIPRA Motha Chief Pradyot Debbarma Warns of Severe Flooding in Tripura, Calls for Immediate Aid
Northeast Desk, August 21, 2024 – Pradyot Debbarma, the leader of TIPRA Motha, has raised alarms over the severe flooding in Tripura, describing it as the “heaviest rainfall in the last 30 years.” Debbarma emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that many villages are submerged, with thousands of people forced to live in makeshift camps as roads are cut off and landslides occur across the state.
“Situation is very grave here in Tripura,” Debbarma stated, highlighting the widespread impact of the deluge. He called for immediate intervention from the central government, urging both the state government and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to step up their efforts in managing the crisis.
The extreme weather has led to significant disruptions, with many communities isolated due to damaged infrastructure. Debbarma praised the efforts of Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) volunteers who have been tirelessly providing aid to affected communities despite facing personal losses themselves. He also announced that all scheduled programs have been canceled in light of the critical situation.
Additionally, Debbarma pointed out the potential regional impact of the flooding, particularly the risk of damaged local dams causing severe consequences for neighboring Bangladesh. He urged all relevant authorities to act swiftly to mitigate further damage and assist those in need.
