Tipra Motha Holds Ground on Greater Tipraland Demand in Meeting with AK Mishra; Pradyot Debbarma Urges Centre to Tackle ‘Historical Injustices’
Northeast Desk, 28th November: Following a meeting with A.K. Mishra, retired IPS and Adviser (Northeast) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, the former Chairman of Tipra Motha and royal scion, asserted on Tuesday that their stance was clearly presented during the meeting.
He emphasized that the Government of India must now respond and address their demands, acknowledging the historical lack of equal representation and justice for the indigenous people of Tripura.
Tipra Motha, the principal opposition political party in the state, engaged in discussions with the home ministry adviser this morning in Agartala.
After the meeting, Pradyot informed that their demands align with constitutional principles.
“We did not compromise on any of our demands during our discussion with AK Mishra. We have reiterated our primary demand for Greater Tipraland. Now, it is up to the Government of India to assess our points and decide on a course of action for the betterment of the Tiprasa community. We have specifically requested a separate administration and stressed the importance of Greater Tipraland as the final solution. If the Government of India has alternative proposals, we welcome them to present those ideas in writing, and we will consider them,” stated Pradyot Debbarma.
He further emphasized that indigenous people have been marginalized for an extended period, and the demand for Greater Tipraland falls within the constitutional framework.
“We are not seeking a peaceful resolution at the cost of diluting our demands. Our stance is firmly rooted in constitutional rights, and we have made our case. It is now the responsibility of the Central government to respond, acknowledge our grievances, and recognize that the indigenous people of Tripura deserve equal representation and justice,” he added.
