Tipra Motha Joins BJP-led Tripura Government, Continues Demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’

Northeast Desk, 7th March: Tipra Motha, which formally joined the BJP-led government in Tripura on Thursday, reiterated its stance on the demand for a separate ‘Greater Tipraland’ state. The party emphasized its commitment to carving out areas falling under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to fulfill this demand. Senior Tipra Motha leaders Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma were sworn in as ministers in the BJP-led government.

This development follows a tripartite agreement signed in New Delhi between Tipra Motha, the Tripura government, and the Centre on March 2. The agreement aims to address various issues concerning the indigenous people of Tripura, including history, land, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and language.

Despite joining the government, Tipra Motha remains steadfast in its pursuit of ‘Greater Tipraland’. Senior leader Animesh Debbarma affirmed the party’s commitment to achieving this goal and asserted that there would be no deviation from their demand. He expressed confidence in launching movements for their demands even while being part of the government.

Party chief Pradyot Debbarma emphasized that ministers must continue advocating for the party’s demands even within the cabinet. He stressed that their stance on ‘Greater Tipraland’ would remain unchanged, both inside and outside the government.

Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the importance of peace and stated that portfolios would soon be distributed among the newly inducted ministers. The swearing-in ceremony of Tipra Motha MLAs was attended by various dignitaries, including Chief Minister Saha, cabinet colleagues, and party leaders.

With the inclusion of Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, the state government now comprises 11 ministers, including Chief Minister Manik Saha. As per the rules, the state can have a maximum of 12 ministers, including the CM.
