Tipra Motha Joins BJP-led Tripura Government: Two MLAs Sworn In as Ministers

Northeast Desk, 7th March: Weeks after the signing of the tripartite agreement on the ‘Constitutional Solution’ for the indigenous people of Tripura, the principal opposition political party, Tipra Motha, joined the BJP-led Tripura government by inducting two MLAs from the opposition party into the state cabinet on Thursday.

Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma and MLA Brishaketu Debbarma formally took the oath as ministers on Thursday, administered by Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Raj Bhavan.

Prior to the oath-taking ceremony, Animesh tendered his resignation as leader of the opposition before Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswabandhu Sen.

Speaking after the ceremony, Animesh emphasized his commitment to addressing the problems of the common people, affirming that their core demand for Greater Tipraland will persist.

He acknowledged the challenge of transitioning from opposition leader to minister, emphasizing his focus on resolving issues such as food, roads, and water affecting the populace.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha stated that departmental allocations for the new ministers will be announced soon, underscoring their collective effort to advance Tripura’s development.

Regarding candidate selection for the East Tripura Assembly, Dr. Saha noted that no decision had been made yet.

The tripartite agreement, signed between Tipra Motha, the Government of India, and Tripura, aims to address various issues concerning the indigenous people of Tripura, including land rights, economic development, and cultural preservation. A Joint Working Group/Committee will be formed to implement the agreed points in a time-bound manner, fostering an environment conducive to progress.
