TISS Guwahati Celebrates 11th Convocation, Professor Gauri Dutt Sharma Calls on Graduates to Drive Positive Social Change
Guwahati – At the 11th convocation of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Guwahati Off-Campus, Vice Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, Professor Gauri Dutt Sharma, encouraged graduating students to utilize their social science education to make meaningful contributions to society. Speaking to the graduates, Sharma, also the former president of the Association of Indian Universities, emphasized the importance of ethical reasoning, empathy, and a positive mindset as essential tools for fostering societal progress.
The convocation celebrated the achievements of 165 students, as noted in an official statement, with degrees awarded across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Professor Sharma highlighted the transformative impact of a social science education, praising TISS Guwahati for its commitment to critical thinking, cultural understanding, and informed citizenship, and commended the institution’s significant role in advancing higher education in Northeast India.
In his address, Professor DP Singh, Chancellor of TISS, encouraged students to embrace future challenges with resilience, urging them to uphold the institution’s values and ideals in their personal and professional lives.
The convocation awarded five PhD degrees in social sciences, 112 MA and MASW degrees, and 48 BA degrees in Social Sciences. The event marked a moment of pride for students, faculty, and families, as graduates prepared to embark on diverse paths to impact society and their communities.
