TMC in Assam? Akhil Gogoi meets Mamata Banerjee
Guwahati: With the political situation in the state seems to be changing day by day, Raijor Dol president and Legislator Akhil Gogoi has sat for a third round of meeting with Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to discuss a possible political reformation in Assam.
As per sources, the meeting between the West Bengal Minister and Gogoi is a third one that is aimed towards bringing out “solutions related to the political turmoil in Assam”. Gogoi in order to sit in the meeting with Banerjee left for Kolkata on Friday and is expected to come back to Assam by Saturday evening.
Gogoi had earlier claimed that the TMC had offered him to take the leadership in Assam but he is yet to take a call on the offer made.
As per sources, even though there is an offer of Gogoi taking the presidential status of the TMC in Assam, Akhil might put forwards options over an alliance with his party so that the regionalism can survive simultaneously with the TMC. However, the details of the meeting are yet to be made public.
A source added that TMC is currently taking steps to create a strong base in Assam and several senior politicians, as well as social workers, are expected to join the party. The source further added that there are discussions with MP Naba Kumar Saraniya alias Hira Saraniya regarding the party’s entry into the state.
Speaking to MyNews NE, Sarania had earlier said, “It is not yet confirmed if I would join the TMC but we are in talks. I have extended my support to the TMC and might support them in the upcoming elections.”
He added, “I feel that if instead of Modi, Mamata Banerjee should be the PrimeMinister of India and we extend full support to this cause. We have noticed that the parties in Assam over time have been working as a B-team of the ruling party and their actions seem to be benefiting the ruling party. So we need an alternative to those B-team parties.”
Sarania further added that in the next elections, TMC will be the leading party in Assam.
Another source further added that along with these two, a senior Congress leader might also be the president of the party in the state.
The party, however, is yet to make an official statement about their stand or formation in Assam.
