TMC MP Accuses Congress of Secret BJP Alliance in Assam Panchayat Polls
Guwahati: In a dramatic turn of events during the heated Assam Panchayat elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Sushmita Dev has ignited a political firestorm by accusing the Congress party of clandestine support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking at a fervent campaign rally in Hajo, Dev leveled serious allegations, asserting that Congress has betrayed its role as a formidable opposition force.
Dev’s accusations centered on the claim that Congress has actively collaborated with the BJP, distributing electoral tickets strategically to align with the ruling party’s interests. This, she argued, reveals a hidden alliance that undermines the democratic process and deceives the electorate.
Furthermore, the TMC MP directly challenged the Congress party’s public statements regarding the withdrawal of their candidates. While Congress has consistently maintained that BJP coerced their candidates to withdraw, Dev presented a contrasting narrative. She alleged that Congress, in reality, willingly withdrew its candidates after accepting financial incentives from the BJP. This act, she claimed, significantly weakened the opposition’s position, effectively handing an advantage to the BJP in the crucial local elections.
