The history of May Day dates back to the late 19th century when workers in America and Europe were struggling for better working conditions and fair wages.
In 1886, the Haymarket conflict in Chicago resulted in the death of several workers and led to a movement for better labor laws and protection. The International Socialist Federation parties and trade unions of 1889 decided to celebrate May 1 for the first time for the workers.
On May 4, 1886, during a protest by workers in Haymarkets, U.S.A., many lost their lives in the clashes of police Arfu workers. This is the first time that May Day is celebrated as a tribute to him.
