Tom Cruise Sets Guinness World Record with Daring Flaming Parachute Jump
Entertainment: Tom Cruise has once again pushed the limits of action filmmaking, earning a Guinness World Record for the most burning parachute jumps by an individual. In a breathtaking stunt for the eighth and final instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Cruise jumped out of a helicopter 16 times with a parachute doused in fuel and set ablaze.
The scene was filmed in Drakensberg, South Africa, where Cruise and the stunt team spent weeks preparing for the perilous stunt, which involved jumping from a height of 75,000 feet. To capture the perfect shot, Cruise wore a 50-lb Snorri camera rig on several jumps.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes—he is one,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief at Guinness World Records. “He’s all about authenticity, and this record is proof of just how far he’s willing to go.”
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning picks up where Dead Reckoning left off, with Ethan Hunt battling a rogue AI known as The Entity. The film reunites franchise regulars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, and Hayley Atwell, and introduces new cast members.
The film’s action sequences are renowned for their realism and intensity, and Cruise’s daring stunt is a testament to his commitment to authenticity. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been thrilling audiences in cinemas since its release on May 23.
