Tongper’s Hat-Trick Propels Meghalaya to Decisive Victory

Narainpur, Chhattisgarh – Meghalaya delivered a commanding performance in their Group A encounter of the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship 2025, securing a resounding 4-0 win over Rajasthan yesterday.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Deibormame Tongper, who etched his name onto the scoresheet with a remarkable hat-trick in the second half.

The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute by Riborlang L Lyngkhoi, whose elegant strike from inside the penalty area curled perfectly into the net, setting the tone for Meghalaya’s dominance.

The second half belonged to Tongper. Just five minutes after the restart, he calmly tapped in a diagonal pass for his first goal. He then doubled his tally shortly after, finding the back of the net with a well-placed left-footed shot while unmarked.

Tongper completed his sensational hat-trick in the 74th minute, confidently converting a penalty he himself had won inside the box.

With this emphatic victory, the Bobby L Nongbet-coached Meghalaya will now focus on their next crucial Group A match against Kerala, scheduled for Saturday.

The stakes are high, as only the group winners from each of the eight groups will advance to the quarterfinals of the prestigious national championship.
