Top Cop Honoured: IGP Mahanta Joins IIT-Guwahati’s Cultural and Scientific Mission

Guwahati: In a unique blend of public service and academic pursuit, Assam’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Parthasarathi Mahanta (IPS), has been appointed as an Honorary Fellow at the Center for Indian Knowledge Systems (CIKS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati.

Dr. Mahanta will be a key contributor to the institute’s ambitious ‘Pandit Hemchandra Goswami Mission for Popularisation of Science and Assamese Culture.’ This mission, named after the legendary Assamese polymath, aims to inspire young minds in Assam to delve into the realms of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) while simultaneously nurturing their appreciation for Assamese culture, language, and literature.

The project, spearheaded by Dr. Naba Goswami, a renowned medical professional and grandson of Pandit Hemchandra Goswami, and Professor Uday S. Dixit, Head of CIKS, will organize a diverse range of activities:

  • STEM Workshops and Seminars: To ignite curiosity and foster innovation among students.
  • Cultural Events and Language Programs: To celebrate and preserve Assamese heritage.
  • Collaborative Initiatives with Educational Institutions: To bridge the gap between scientific learning and cultural understanding.

Dr. Mahanta’s invaluable experience and dedication to public service are expected to significantly enhance the impact of this mission.
