Top SDFK leader killed in Manipur

Guwahati: A person claimed to be the self-styled commander-in-chief of the Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland (SDFK) was killed in an encounter at Churachandpur district of Manipur on Friday.

The police identified the accused as Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang.

The district police informed there were at least seven cases registered against him at Churachandpur police station.

According to reports, the Manipur Police along with 31 Assam Rifles launched a joint operation based on specific information about the presence of the top SDFK leader and a confederate in Khominthang village in the district’s New Lamka area.

The suspected insurgents started firing when the security persons surrounded the house where the commander was reported to be hiding and in the firing, the C-n-C was shot dead. Another person named Lunkhosei Chongloi was also found injured in the house and he was sent to Imphal for treatment.

Lunkhosei Chongloi is said to be the bodyguard of the self-styled commander.

The police further informed that at least three pistols with 3 magazines, 2 hand-held radio Sets, 282 rounds of 9mm, and a two-wheeler, and the place was immediately cordoned off and sealed.
