Torrential rain wrecks havoc in West Sikkim
The torrential rain in Rathong-Cho valley has triggered flash flood across the West Sikkim causing major damages to Kirateswar Mandir, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, NHPC Hingdam, Dans Energy. District Magistrate, West Karma R Bongpo, told this correspondence over the phone that river belt across the river Rathong-Cho, river Lodan, river Ranjeet is heavily damaged and also caused heavy damaged the lower belt of famous Kirateswar Mandir at Legship, power house of NHPC, Dans Energy Power house and retaining walls of JNV Rohtak, IRBns training camp Rohtak, and PCA Laboratory Mazhitar, Jorethang pharmaceutical company are among the sufferers.
Due to major landslides in Khecheperi area and Rimbi picnic spot are also damages by torrential rainfalls.
District Magistrate West further said that entire district of West is badly effected due to disruption of power supply as two major contributors of power supply NHPC power house at Sisney and Dans Energy Power house are washed out by the flash flood.
The houses located in lower belt across the river Ranjeet was evacuated well in advance before the monsoon started and have less damages adding that there is no report of any causality adding that road connecting DANs Enegry Power Station to State Highway Jorethang- Namchi and road at Sisney connecting Legship was also washed out,
he also informed that the loss acquired is yet to be ascertain as there is still high flow of water in the river till the news filed.
