Torrential Rainfall Wreaks Havoc Across India, IMD Issues Alerts
Guwahati, 7th July: Severe flooding continues to devastate eastern, northern, and northeastern India as torrential rainfall persists. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rainfall in Delhi on Sunday, contrasting with recent sultry conditions where temperatures ranged from 34.7°C to 27.1°C.
In Himachal Pradesh, emergency services have closed 62 roads due to heavy rains affecting districts like Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Kangra. The Shimla meteorological office has issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas until July 12.
Assam remains severely affected, with over 24.5 lakh people impacted across 30 districts as major rivers breach danger levels. Urban areas in Kamrup (Metropolitan), Kamrup, and Dibrugarh districts are submerged. Kaziranga National Park has witnessed tragic losses with 114 wild animals perishing and 95 rescued due to the flood situation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged support to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force actively involved in rescue operations.
In Bihar, rising water levels in rivers like Kosi and Kamla have breached warning levels in various districts. Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir reported at least 14 fatalities from rain-related incidents, highlighting the severity of the ongoing weather disruptions.
The IMD has issued alerts for isolated heavy rainfall in several states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.
With warnings ranging from orange to red alerts, authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and prepared amidst the unpredictable weather patterns.
