Total Curfew Reimposed in Five Districts of Violence-Hit Manipur

Northeast Desk, 6th September: Amid ongoing tensions and concerns, a total curfew has been reinstated in five districts of Manipur, all located within the valley.

The curfew, which was initially enforced on September 5, has been reimposed in Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts as a precautionary measure.

In response to a request from the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the state administration decided to order the removal of an army barrier at Phougakchao Ikhai in the Bishnupur district.

Phougakchao Ikhai is situated just a few kilometers away from the Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district of Manipur.

The Manipur government has also appealed to COCOMI to cancel its planned operation to breach the army barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district and instead support the security measures initiated by the government.
