Tourist Association: Assam Drivers Being Attacked in Meghalaya
Guwahati: The Assam Tourist Travelers Association on Wednesday claimed that drivers from the state are being targeted in Meghalaya and condemned the incident in which four of the state’s vehicles were set ablaze.
They claimed that Shillong is an unfair place for driving.
Meghalaya Police ordered at least 50 vehicles to be sent back close to Paul Ground after declaring that they would not be responsible for security.
However, despite being guarded, the trucks were attacked close to Nangpur.
According to the association, miscreants attacked at least 10 vehicles and damaged their windows.
Over hundreds of tourists are stranded in Shillong as a result of the fire incident at the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday morning. They are refusing to allow vehicles with Assam registration to transport them back.
However, Meghalaya taxis charge their customers a double fare to transport them back.
Moreover, black flags are flown in front of hotels in Shillong where Assamese tourists are staying.
There is a lot of dread and apprehension among visitors in Assam.
The group urged the Assam government to act right once to safely transport the residents of the state back.
