Toyota Hilux ready to Enter India?
Guwahati: Toyota! Well everyone probably knows Toyota and people in India know the name all because of the iconic Innova and Fortuner. But, now, the Japanese automaker is considering bringing the Toyota Hilux into India making it a major step into the pick-up truck market.
Hilux is termed as a pick-up truck most known for its durability and now it is all prepared to make its debut in the Indian market. The pick-up truck to be launched in India will be based on the IMV2 architecture. This is the same architecture on which the Innova Crysta and Fortuner are based. However, the “HiLux” will be bigger in size than these two.
The truck was first launched in 1968 and since then it had witnessed a number of facelifts. It turned into a mid-size pick-up truck from a compact pick-up in its time of production. The truck was a compact pick-up from 1968 to 2004 but with the facelift in 2004, it was converted into a mid-size pick-up and now is being sold overseas and people are loving it with all their heart.
In 2020, the eighth generation of the truck was launched and this series is expected to be launched in India.
In terms of engine specifications, the truck has a 3656cc engine that is expected to produce 234.6 BHP with a maximum torque of 376Nm. Its tank capacity is expected to be 76litres and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certified mileage is expected to be 10 kilometers per liter.
The vehicle was earlier rumored to be launched during Diwali 2021 but as per reports, the launch has been delayed and the truck will be launched in February 2022. The expected price tag will start from Rs 18 lakh.
