Traffic Restrictions Announced for Guwahati Marathon on February 9
Guwahati: The Guwahati Marathon is set to take place on February 9 from Sarusajai Sports Complex, starting at 5 AM. The marathon route will stretch between Basistha Flyover (Khanapara side) and Garchuk Flyover (Jalukbari side) along National Highway-27 (NH-27).
In light of the event, the Guwahati Traffic Police has issued a set of traffic regulations to ensure smooth vehicular movement and free passage for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders. These measures also prioritize the safety of vulnerable road users, including children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons.
The following traffic diversions will be in effect from 3 AM onwards:
- Vehicles traveling from Khanapara towards Jalukbari will move as usual in their normal carriageway on NH-27.
- Vehicles using the service lane from Khanapara to Jalukbari will be diverted at Beharbari Flyover (opposite Brahmaputra Bazar) towards the main carriageway of NH-27.
- Vehicles coming from Jalukbari towards Khanapara will follow their usual route until the Gorchuk Flyover, where they will be diverted via the Service Road.
- This diversion will continue until Lokhra Chariali under-bridge, after which vehicles will be redirected towards Khanapara via the service lane on the southern side (opposite Sarusajai Sports Complex) up to Beharbari Flyover under-bridge.
- From Beharbari Flyover under-bridge, vehicles will be redirected to the northern service lane (Beharbari to Khanapara).
- The final diversion will continue up to the end of Basistha Flyover, where vehicles will resume their normal course on NH-27.
- No parking will be allowed on the service road on both sides of NH-27 from Gorchuk to Koinadhora.
- Vehicles will not be permitted to ply in the service lane in the opposite direction of normal traffic flow.
Emergency service vehicles will be exempt from these restrictions.
The Guwahati Traffic Police urges all commuters to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and smooth marathon event.
