Tragic Discovery in Uttarakhand: Assam Civil Services Aspirant Found Dead
Guwahati: The body of Rosmita Hojai, a 25-year-old civil services aspirant from Assam’s Dima Hasao district, has been found in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Rosmita had gone missing on June 6 while on a camping trip in Rishikesh with two male acquaintances, including Hemant Sharma, a former classmate from Haryana.
Rosmita had travelled to Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board examination and later met up with her acquaintances in Rishikesh. Her companions claimed she disappeared near the Ganga river, and a local resident witnessed a woman drowning near the campsite. Despite search operations by Uttarakhand Police and the State Disaster Response Force, no immediate recovery was made.
Authorities examined the possibility of suicide but found no conclusive evidence. Rosmita’s family filed a missing persons report in Assam after losing contact with her. Her mother, Solmodi Hojai, stated that Rosmita had not informed them about her travel to Rishikesh. Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, confirmed Rosmita’s death on social media, expressing deep sorrow and demanding immediate legal action against her companions.
Gorlosa thanked Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Uttarakhand Police for their assistance, urging strict action against those involved in the “horrifying incident”. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation into Rosmita’s disappearance and death is ongoing.
