Tremors Felt in Jammu & Kashmir After 5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan; No Casualties Reported

National: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan on April 19, 2025, at 12:17 PM IST, triggering tremors across parts of northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir.

The quake was recorded by the National Centre for Seismology, which confirmed the epicenter to be at latitude 36.10°N and longitude 71.20°E, with a depth of 130 kilometers.

Tremors were reportedly felt in multiple regions of Jammu and Kashmir, causing a brief wave of panic. People in some areas were seen evacuating buildings and moving to open spaces as a precautionary step, though no injuries or property damage have been reported at this time.

Authorities in both Afghanistan and India are monitoring the situation closely. Disaster response teams remain on standby while structural assessments are being carried out in the affected zones.

Officials have urged citizens to remain calm and follow standard safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
