Tribal Unions Issue Ultimatum to Nagaland Government

Kohima, Nagaland: The Yimkhiung Akheru Arihako (YAA) and Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) have issued a stern ultimatum to the Nagaland government, demanding the immediate implementation of a 25% reservation policy for seven tribes across six districts of Eastern Nagaland.

In a joint statement, the student bodies expressed deep disappointment over the government’s apparent disregard for the March 23, 2022 P&AR notification and the subsequent High Court verdict. They warned of indefinite democratic agitation if their demands are not met by November 30, 2024.

The unions contend that the delay in implementing the reservation policy has severely impacted the aspirations of tribal youth. They have accused the government of a “stone-cold” response to their repeated appeals.

The ultimatum comes amidst growing discontent among tribal communities in the region, who have long sought equitable representation and opportunities. The student bodies have made it clear that they will not tolerate any further delay and are prepared to take stronger action to safeguard their rights.
