Northeast Desk, 22nd May: In a heartbreaking sequence of events, two individuals, including a 4-year-old girl, drowned in separate incidents in Tripura.
The first tragedy struck in the Khilpara area under the Udaipur Sub-division of Gomati District, where young Ananya Karmakar met a tragic end. According to her grandfather, Makhan Karmakar, Ananya had accompanied her grandmother to a neighbor’s house for a puja ceremony. After returning home, she told her grandmother she needed to use the toilet and went behind the house as usual. When she didn’t return, her family began searching for her. They found her footwear near a pond, suspecting she might have fallen in. Fire service personnel, alerted to the situation, arrived promptly and, with local help, recovered Ananya’s lifeless body from the pond. She was rushed to Gomati District Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
In a separate incident, 50-year-old Parampati Debbarma drowned in a pond in the Old Tabla Bari area under Khowai Sub-division of Khowai district. Her husband recounted that she had gone to their household pond, where irrigation work was being carried out. Unfortunately, she slipped and fell into the water. With no one around to assist and unable to swim, she drowned.
