Guwahati: Three people died of asphyxiation while cleaning abandoned septic tank at Sabroom in South Tripura.
Meanwhile another person is in a critical condition and is receiving treatment at a hospital.
Locals claim that the owners had abandoned using the tank for a considerable amount of time.
The incident took place when one of the four workers sent in to clean the tank fell unconscious after entering it.
The other three workers jumped in to rescue him. They also began to dizzy due to the toxicity inside the tank.
The fire brigade authorities arrived at the spot and saved the workers after the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Kalam Sheikh (29), Saidul Islam (19) and Bhajan Singh (40). The injured person has been identified as Ratan Dey (28).
