Tripura: 3 drug peddlers arrested, seized huge contrabands

Guwahati: Tripura Police apprehended three suspected drug peddlers in connection with drug smuggling in North Tripura on Monday.

Working on a tip-off the police conducted a raid in two different places namely the Churaibari area and in the Panisagar area of the district. The police along with the arrest seized huge contraband items worth more than Rs 3 crore.

“Police seized 25,000 bottles of Phensedyl from a truck with registration number NL01AC-8677 that was en route to Assam from Tripura during the initial raid in Churaibari, which shares the border with Assam,” he added.

“We have also detained a person named Sabaaj Ali (24) from Gaya, Bihar, in connection with the Phensedyl seized,” added the SP.

He further stated that near Panisagar, the police apprehended a vehicle and recovered 4655 bottles of cough syrup and 31, 824 pieces of prohibited tablets.

“We have also detained two individuals, Askib Ahmed and Amir Ahmed.” He went on to say, “They’re two brothers.”

According to Chakraborty, the total seizures exceeded Rs 3 crore, and two vehicles and three people were apprehended. The officials filed charges against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
