Tripura Achieves Disability-Friendly Panchayat Status, Partners with IIM Shillong for Leadership Training
Agartala: In a landmark announcement during the National Panchayat Day celebrations at Gram Swaraj Bhawan in Agartala, Chief Minister Manik Saha declared that all Panchayats in Tripura have been made disability-friendly. This achievement marks a significant step towards inclusive governance and underscores the state’s commitment to empowering its Divyangjan population.
Simultaneously, the Tripura government solidified its dedication to enhancing grassroots leadership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong. This collaboration is designed to provide comprehensive training in leadership and management to Panchayat officials, aiming to further professionalize and strengthen the state’s Panchayati Raj system.
Chief Minister Saha highlighted Tripura’s remarkable progress in the national Panchayat Devolution Index, revealing that the state has ascended from the 13th to the 7th position since 2015. He attributed this advancement to the proactive measures taken to empower the Panchayat system, citing the seven National Panchayat Awards received last year as a testament to the state’s effective governance.
During his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of action over mere words, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of rural development as pivotal to national progress. He recounted the distribution of offer letters to Panchayat executives last year as a key initiative to reinforce the system’s foundation.
Dr. Saha also pointed to the substantial infrastructural development in the Panchayat sector over the past two years, including the establishment of 44 new Panchayat Bhavans, four District Panchayat Resource Centres, and eight Panchayat Learning Centres. He reiterated the predominantly rural nature of Tripura, stressing the necessity for continued focus on holistic rural development.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister urged award-winning Panchayat representatives to serve as beacons of inspiration and to maintain their dedication to exemplary work. He credited the Modi government, post-2014, with catalyzing the true development of the Panchayati Raj system in Tripura, and called upon all officials and elected representatives to remain steadfast in their pursuit of rural upliftment.
