Tripura: Advocates Block Road in Agartala Over Prolonged Power Outage
Northeast Desk, 29th May: Advocates and officials from the West Tripura District Sessions and Judicial Magistrate Court staged a road blockade near Fire Brigade Chowmuhani in Agartala today, protesting against the prolonged power outage caused by Cyclone Remal. The location is notably close to the official residences of Tripura Ministers.
Senior advocate Sandip Datta Chowdhury highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that the decision to block the road was a drastic measure. “For the last three days, the West Tripura District Sessions and Judicial Magistrate Court has been without power, causing significant disruptions to our operations. We are facing issues with drinking water and are unable to file petitions and conduct other essential work,” he told reporters.
Chowdhury explained that despite understanding the natural cause of the power outage, their repeated complaints to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) went unanswered. “We have called and even visited their office, but no action has been taken to restore power,” he added.
The blockade was aimed at drawing the state government’s attention to the urgent need for power restoration. “We will continue our protest until our demands are met,” Chowdhury asserted.
Joining the protest, Tripura Bar Association’s secretary Kaushik Indu emphasized the impossibility of working under current conditions. Renowned advocate Pijush Kanti Biswas also condemned the lack of response from the helpline services.
The protest was eventually lifted after Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath assured the advocates that the power issues would be resolved promptly.
