Tripura: Agartala-Akhaura Railway Link Project Inaugurated, Boosting India-Bangladesh Relations
Northeast Desk, 1st November: Tripura’s Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, praised the inauguration of the Agartala-Akhaura Railway Link Project, noting that it would strengthen the bond between India and Bangladesh. He also highlighted that Tripura would serve as a gateway for tourism due to this railway connection.
The virtual inauguration of the Agartala-Akhaura Railway Link Project was attended by both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. According to the Chief Minister, this railway link would significantly reduce the distance between Agartala and Kolkata, making it more accessible for travelers. He also mentioned that plans were in place to redevelop several railway stations in Tripura, including Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Kailashahar. Additionally, the Agartala Railway station is set to receive substantial funding for upgrades, further improving transportation infrastructure in the region.
The Agartala-Akhaura railway link covers 12.24 kilometers, with a significant portion in both Tripura and Bangladesh. The project, with a total allocation of Rs 972 crore, is expected to strengthen the relationship between India and Bangladesh.
The Chief Minister highlighted the progress made in railway connectivity, emphasizing that Tripura now has better access to the rest of India. This development is part of the efforts to enhance connectivity in the northeastern region, providing opportunities for both domestic and international travel.
