Agartala: Ahead of the 72nd Plenary Session of the North East Council (NEC) in Agartala, Tripura, on December 20 and 21, authorities have ramped up security across the city.
Given Agartala’s proximity to the Bangladesh border, which spans 856 kilometers along Tripura, heightened vigilance has been prioritized to ensure a safe and smooth event.
West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar confirmed that comprehensive measures have been implemented to bolster security in and around Agartala. “Fixed barricades have been set up near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post, and security has been intensified in bordering areas with regular patrols. Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas of the city to maintain law and order,” Kumar stated during a media briefing on December 11.
This marks the first time the NEC Plenary Session will be held in Agartala, underscoring its growing prominence as a key center for regional collaboration. The event will see the participation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and all Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Governors from the northeastern states.
Officials have assured the public that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure the safety and success of the session, which is expected to address crucial developmental issues for the region.
