Tripura: Agartala Gears Up for Monsoon: Scientific Drainage System Prioritized by CM Saha

Agartala: Agartala is poised for a significant infrastructure overhaul as Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has placed a strong emphasis on the urgent need for scientifically designed drainage systems. The focus is to mitigate the recurrent issue of urban waterlogging during heavy rainfall. This directive came during a recent high-level meeting held at the Secretariat’s video conference hall, where the progress of ongoing development projects within the Agartala Municipal Corporation area was thoroughly reviewed.

The meeting, primarily centered on preemptive measures for the upcoming monsoon season, also delved into enhancing the city’s parking infrastructure and other crucial developmental agendas. Agartala Smart City Limited CEO, Shailesh Kumar Yadav, provided a detailed visual presentation, outlining the existing drainage network, the operational status of water drainage pumps, and the implementation of various urban development plans, including parking solutions.

Chief Minister Saha, in his address, stressed the critical importance of constructing robust and scientifically sound drainage systems to ensure swift water evacuation during heavy rainfall. He also meticulously assessed the present condition and maintenance of the city’s water drainage pumps. Furthermore, he issued directives for the consistent operation and maintenance of electronic traffic signals across the city, aiming to streamline traffic flow and prevent congestion.

In a move to improve pedestrian safety, CM Saha instructed officials to initiate the construction of a foot-over steel bridge on the national highway at the Ramthakur College intersection in the Badharghat area. Progress on the multi-level car parking facility at Agartala Motorstand was also reviewed, with the Chief Minister urging Agartala Smart City Limited to develop a comprehensive plan integrating drainage and parking solutions.

Traffic Superintendent Kanta Jangir outlined the various traffic management initiatives and future plans aimed at optimizing the city’s traffic system. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to proactive urban planning and development, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life for Agartala’s residents.
