Tripura Assembly Approves Nearly 100% Salary Hike for CM, Ministers, and MLAs

Agartala: The Tripura Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a bill proposing a significant increase in the salaries, pensions, and benefits of the chief minister, ministers, speaker, and MLAs. The decision marks a nearly 100% hike in their remuneration.

Under the new provisions:

  • Chief Minister: Monthly salary increased to ₹97,000, with an additional sumptuary allowance of ₹13,000.
  • Ministers and Leader of the Opposition: Monthly salary set at ₹95,000, with ₹12,000 as allowance.
  • MLAs: Monthly salary raised to ₹93,000, with an allowance of ₹12,000.

The hike aims to align the remuneration of Tripura’s lawmakers with those of other states while accounting for inflation and the increasing responsibilities of public office holders.

This development comes amid ongoing debates in India about balancing the need for adequate compensation for lawmakers with fiscal prudence. Further details about the rationale and implications of the hike are expected as the story unfolds.
