Tripura: Bangladeshi Youth Held for Illegal Entry, Another Nabbed for Ganja Smuggling at Agartala Railway Station

Agartala: In a coordinated operation at Agartala Railway Station, security agencies arrested two individuals in separate incidents late last evening—one for illegal entry into India and another for attempting to smuggle ganja to Assam.

The twin arrests underscore growing concerns over cross-border infiltration and narcotics trafficking in Tripura.

According to Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station, Tapas Das, the first arrest involved a Bangladeshi national identified as Biplab Das, a resident of Sunamganj district in Bangladesh. He was apprehended by a joint team comprising the Agartala GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the Intelligence Division.

Acting on confidential inputs, the team intercepted Biplab Das at the station, where he was reportedly preparing to board a train to Delhi. Preliminary interrogation revealed that he had entered Indian territory illegally, with plans to travel deeper into the country. Officials suspect a larger network may be involved, and further arrests are expected as investigations progress.

In a separate raid conducted shortly thereafter, the GRP and RPF arrested Bishal Natya Das (23), a resident of Surendra Nagar in Tripura’s Gomati district. He was caught with 2.055 kilograms of dry ganja hidden in his backpack. Das confessed during questioning that he intended to transport the contraband to Assam via train. He also revealed that the seized ganja could fetch an estimated Rs 25,000 in the Assam market.

Both cases have been registered, and further investigations are underway to identify possible links to broader smuggling and infiltration networks operating through the railway corridor.
