Tripura BJP to Launch Statewide Campaign in Support of Waqf (Amendment) Act from April 20

Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Tripura is set to roll out a major campaign in support of the recently introduced Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, aiming to counter what it calls “misinformation” spread by opposition parties.

The campaign will begin on April 20 and continue till May 5, with the objective of reaching out to the Muslim community and clarifying the intent and benefits of the new legislation.

Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee made the announcement during a press interaction, highlighting the party’s preparedness to mobilize public opinion in favour of the Act. A high-level strategy meeting was convened ahead of the campaign launch, attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, former CM and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP national secretary Anil Antony, and other senior leaders.

Addressing the media, Chief Minister Saha emphasized that the Waqf (Amendment) Act is designed to empower common Muslims, particularly women, by introducing greater transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties. Drawing a parallel to the abolition of Triple Talaq, Saha said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes in ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’. Just as the abolition of Triple Talaq protected the dignity of Muslim women, the Waqf Amendment will also bring transformative benefits to economically disadvantaged Muslims.”

Supporting the chief minister’s view, BJP national secretary Anil Antony described the Act as a step towards the upliftment of millions of poor Muslims. He added that the new law addresses longstanding loopholes and aims to ensure equitable access to Waqf assets, preventing misuse and promoting community welfare.

With the campaign launch, the Tripura BJP is poised to take the debate over the Waqf (Amendment) Act directly to the people, seeking to engage communities at the grassroots level and challenge the opposition’s criticism through public meetings, door-to-door outreach, and digital messaging.
