Tripura Bolsters Healthcare with Landmark Eye Hospital and Infrastructure Expansion

Agartala: In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced a substantial allocation of Rs 100 crore for the establishment of a cutting-edge eye hospital within the state.

The announcement was made during the World Health Day programme, hosted by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in Agartala, where the chief minister, who also oversees the health portfolio, reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s medical infrastructure.

Beyond the eye hospital, CM Saha detailed ongoing projects, notably the development of a dedicated Maternal and Child Clinic. He revealed that the project has received over Rs 150 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), facilitating rapid infrastructure development and the expansion of the healthcare workforce. Emphasizing the importance of proactive health management, he stated, “Prevention is better than cure. If we remain alert and adopt a healthy lifestyle, we can avoid many diseases. Physical fitness is key to a disease-free life.”

The chief minister disclosed that the allocated Rs 100 crore for the eye hospital in this year’s budget will ensure the facility is equipped with modern amenities. Furthermore, he highlighted the expansion of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state. “With peace prevailing in Tripura, private hospitals and investors are now showing interest. We want everyone to stay healthy and happy. The state’s health sector is witnessing substantial development,” he added.

CM Saha also addressed the significance of health awareness campaigns, urging that such initiatives should genuinely promote health consciousness among the public, rather than merely serving as symbolic rallies. He underscored the necessity for lifestyle modifications, particularly in light of the rising number of premature deaths attributed to unhealthy habits. “We often advise others to live healthily, but fail to follow it ourselves. This has to change,” he urged.

Expressing deep concern over the escalating issue of drug addiction, notably the use of injectable drugs, which has contributed to an increase in HIV/AIDS cases, CM Saha called for collective societal action to combat this menace. “Drug abuse is a major issue. We must eradicate it from Tripura. Everyone needs to come forward and contribute. The government is with the people. We are performing well on all parameters,” he asserted.

Finally, the chief minister highlighted the detrimental effects of child marriage, describing it as a harmful practice with severe physical and psychological repercussions. “Our government is working on multiple fronts to ensure the well-being of every citizen,” he concluded.
