Tripura Cancels Power Staff Leaves During Monsoon to Ensure Uninterrupted Electricity Supply
Agartala: In a proactive move to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the monsoon season, Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has cancelled all leaves for employees of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) for the months of May and June, barring medical emergencies.
The announcement came during a high-level monsoon preparedness review meeting held at Pragna Bhavan on Wednesday. Addressing senior officials and engineers, Minister Nath underscored the state’s commitment to maintaining round-the-clock electricity for its citizens despite seasonal challenges.
“Ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply is our top priority. All staff must come together and take responsibility,” said Nath, hinting at possible special benefits or recognition for employees after the season.
The meeting was attended by Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary Udayan Sinha, TSECL MD Biswajit Basu, Finance Director Sarvjit Singh Dogra, and other senior officials. Secretary Singh presented a detailed analysis of risks and challenges posed by monsoon-related disruptions.
Vegetation management emerged as a critical issue, with officials noting that falling branches are a leading cause of power outages during storms. Nath appealed to the public to support tree-trimming initiatives, stating, “TSECL cannot operate effectively without public cooperation.”
The state government is taking a zero-tolerance approach this season to prevent avoidable outages and hazards, positioning preparedness as a shared responsibility between authorities and citizens.
