Tripura: Cannabis Trafficking Foiled at Agartala Railway Station; Two Arrested with Over 6 kg of Drugs

Agartala: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities at Agartala Railway Station on Wednesday apprehended two individuals attempting to smuggle over 6 kilograms of cannabis. The coordinated operation was carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The suspects, identified as Rafiqulla Khan (29) and Faizal Ahmed (18), both hailing from Tripura’s Sepahijala district, were intercepted following a tip-off. Security personnel discovered six tightly packed bundles of dry cannabis weighing a total of 6.265 kg, concealed inside a pit-type carry bag.

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP, said the accused had confessed during preliminary interrogation that they planned to transport the cannabis to Assam via the railway network. The contraband is estimated to have a street value of ₹1.10 lakh in the Assam market.

A case has been registered against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They are scheduled to be produced before the court on Thursday.

Following the seizure, the GRP and RPF have intensified surveillance and patrolling across railway stations in Tripura to prevent further smuggling attempts. Officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals involved in the trafficking network, and more arrests are likely.
