Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Condemns Ragging, Calls for Strict Measures in Colleges
Agartala, Tripura — In light of a recent FIR against students at Tripura Medical College accused of ragging, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha called on college students across the state to refrain from engaging in such activities. Addressing the issue on Tuesday, he stressed that ragging would not be tolerated and that strict laws are in place to prevent it.
“I have heard about the ragging incident through the media and have spoken with officials. Action has already been initiated according to the rules,” Dr. Saha stated. “Ragging is unacceptable, and the law will take its course. The central government is also closely monitoring these incidents. Ragging should not be tolerated in any institution.”
The FIR filed by Tripura Medical College and Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital followed reports of senior students allegedly ragging juniors and issuing threats via WhatsApp. In response, Tripura Police have launched an investigation into the case.
Dr. Arindam Datta, Principal of Tripura Medical College, shared that the college’s anti-ragging committee held a meeting on October 23, where they decided to file an FIR and enforce penalties per National Medical Council (NMC) guidelines. “We filed the FIR on October 25 and reported to the NMC by October 26. The NMC’s complaint, along with evidence, necessitated action within a week. Now, the police will lead the investigation,” Dr. Datta added.
The case highlights growing concern over ragging practices, with educational and government authorities alike emphasizing the importance of a safe and supportive environment for all students.
