Tripura Chief Minister Highlights Sports’ Role in Combating Drug Addiction
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the importance of sports in addressing the rising drug addiction problem in Tripura and the broader North-Eastern region. He attributed the increasing substance abuse among youth to the lack of proper sports infrastructure, stressing that engaging young minds in athletics can help them stay focused, self-aware, and distracted from harmful influences.
CM Saha drew attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, highlighting a shift in naming sports complexes and stadiums after athletes rather than politicians. This move aims to inspire future generations to remember and honor sporting icons, promoting a healthier and more disciplined society.
To support this vision, CM Saha inaugurated three state-of-the-art sports facilities at the Dasarath Dev Sports Complex in Badharghat. These facilities include the Devbhakti Jamatia Synthetic Athletic Turf, the Swadeshpriya Nandi Synthetic Hockey Ground, and the Pratul Bhattacherjee Synthetic Turf Football Ground. These facilities aim to provide young athletes with the necessary resources to develop their skills and engage in productive activities.
The Tripura government has been actively working to develop sports infrastructure across the state. Previously, CM Saha inaugurated the state’s second synthetic football turf and announced proposals for an international standard sports complex in Agartala. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to promoting sports and addressing social issues like drug addiction.
