Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha Lauds Self-Help Groups, Calls for Collective Effort in Maintaining Cleanliness at ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Closing Ceremony

Northeast Desk, 3rd October: At the closing ceremony of Swachhata Hi Seva held at Rabindra Bhavan on Tuesday, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha called for public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness across the state. He praised the tireless efforts of women from self-help groups (SHGs), who played a vital role in ensuring hygiene throughout the campaign.

During the event, Dr. Saha also inaugurated a new vending zone at Children’s Park as part of the Agartala Smart City Project Limited and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) initiative. This project, which provides specially designed vending carts, aims to organize street vendors who previously operated in scattered locations. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of cleanliness in food vending zones, urging vendors to keep the city clean as part of the broader “Swachh Agartala” and “Swachh Tripura” visions.

Highlighting the significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and Mahalaya on the same day, Dr. Saha reiterated the role of cleanliness in daily life. He emphasized that cleanliness should be maintained in offices, schools, and homes, noting that dusty files in government offices need to be addressed. Dr. Saha allocated 10% of the budget for the cleanliness of public institutions, a move approved by the cabinet.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always stressed cleanliness,” Dr. Saha stated. “If we all take responsibility for our surroundings, we can truly build a cleaner, better Agartala and Tripura.”

The Chief Minister concluded by acknowledging that cleanliness is an ongoing process requiring the cooperation of all citizens.
