Tripura CM Expresses Concern Over Rising HIV Cases
Northeast Desk, 14th March: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed serious concern over the increasing number of HIV-positive cases among the youth, with 150-200 cases reported in the state every month.
Saha disclosed that the state currently has 5330 HIV-positive or AIDS patients, with 4295 males, 1033 females, and three transgenders.
During a program in Agartala, Saha emphasized that the situation in the state is heading towards a “disastrous turn” and requires immediate attention.
In January 2024, in response to a query raised by Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma, the state Health and Family Welfare department informed the Assembly about the prevalence of 5287 active cases, with 1023 women, 4262 men, and 2 third-gender individuals.
The government, under the guidance of the Union Ministry, has implemented various measures to control HIV and AIDS. These measures include establishing Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) in 24 Hospitals, Facility Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (FICTC) in 133 Hospitals, and 3 PPP Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (PPP-ICTC). Additionally, a mobile integrated counselling and testing center van is currently operational in the state.
