Tripura CM Manik Saha Appointed Convener of High-Level Task Force for North East Investment Promotion

Agartala: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has constituted a High-Level Task Force for investment promotion in the North East, appointing Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha as its Convener.

The decision was taken during the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Agartala, Tripura, on December 21, 2024.

The Task Force includes prominent leaders such as Union Minister of MDoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as members. The panel has been mandated to submit its report to the NEC within six months, outlining a comprehensive roadmap to enhance the investment landscape in the region.

According to the official notification from MDoNER, the Task Force will assess the existing investment ecosystem, policies, and infrastructure in the North East and develop a strategic plan to position the region as a key investment hub. Key focus sectors include agriculture, tourism, logistics, information technology, and renewable energy. The report will highlight high-potential sectors and propose investment clusters such as agro-processing zones, tourism circuits, IT parks, and renewable energy corridors.

The Task Force will also formulate strategies to attract both domestic and international investments, with a strong emphasis on public-private partnerships (PPPs). Additionally, it will recommend policy reforms to streamline approval processes, improve ease of doing business, and address investor concerns to create a more investor-friendly environment in the North East.

This initiative is expected to significantly boost economic development in the region by fostering sectoral growth and enhancing investment opportunities.
