Tripura CM Manik Saha Rolls Out Landmark Welfare Measures for Tea Garden Workers in Bamutiya
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday launched a series of transformative welfare initiatives at the Tufania Lunga Tea Garden in Bamutiya, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to uplift marginalised communities, especially tea garden workers. The initiatives were part of the Chief Minister Tea Worker Welfare Scheme, a flagship programme aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tea garden families across Tripura.
A major highlight of the visit was the distribution of land pattas to 82 tea worker families, granting them legal ownership of their homes. This milestone measure is expected to offer long-term housing security and dignity to some of the state’s most underserved residents. As the beneficiaries received their documents, the atmosphere was filled with gratitude and optimism.
In a parallel effort to address social challenges, CM Saha flagged off an awareness rally advocating a drug-free lifestyle. The campaign is part of a broader push to combat substance abuse in rural communities, particularly among youth. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for collective action and awareness in curbing the drug menace.
To further strengthen grassroots access to essential services, health and legal aid camps were also organised on-site. These camps provided immediate medical attention and legal consultations to residents, ensuring that basic rights and services reach the doorstep of tea garden workers. A blood donation camp was also held, where CM Saha personally interacted with donors, encouraging a spirit of community contribution and civic responsibility.
To promote economic self-reliance, the Chief Minister also distributed agricultural equipment, including power trailers, to the workers. This step is aimed at supporting alternative livelihood options through farming, enabling families to boost their income and reduce dependency on seasonal employment.
Expressing her gratitude, beneficiary Piyari Tati shared, “I am very happy to have received a house. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Saha. I am overjoyed that he visited my home—it’s a moment I’ll never forget.” Biplab Sarkar, another recipient, stated, “I received a power trailer for agricultural work, and I feel proud to have it. I thank the Chief Minister for this valuable support.” Echoing similar sentiments, Maran Tati said, “I received the patta today, and it will benefit us greatly. I sincerely thank CM Saha for this gesture.”
The event showcased the state government’s holistic approach to rural development, combining land security, health care, livelihood promotion, and social awareness into a single mission. CM Saha’s presence at the tea garden not only provided reassurance to the residents but also marked a significant moment in Tripura’s drive toward inclusive governance and empowerment.
