Tripura CM Manik Saha Stresses Strengthening Healthcare, Inaugurates IT Lab at Nursing College

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha reaffirmed his government’s commitment to bolstering the state’s healthcare infrastructure, emphasizing the initiative to establish a health hub in Tripura.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony for students of Agartala’s Government Nursing College at the IGM Hospital Complex on January 6, CM Saha highlighted the pivotal role of healthcare professionals in enhancing the system’s effectiveness.

“The state government is making significant efforts to strengthen the health system in Tripura. Nurses play a critical role in this, and establishing good relationships with patients’ families is essential to improving the quality of care,” said CM Saha.

During the event, the Chief Minister, who also serves as the state Health Minister, inaugurated a newly established IT lab at the Nursing College. He underscored the importance of robust nursing management, drawing inspiration from Florence Nightingale, whom he described as a global symbol of dedicated service in nursing.

“Florence Nightingale transformed nursing into a service-oriented vocation, healing countless injured and dying soldiers during the Crimean War. Students must embody her ideals, performing their entrusted duties with utmost dedication and sincerity,” CM Saha remarked, addressing the nursing students.

This year, 49 students joined the Government Nursing College, marking a significant step forward for the state’s healthcare education. CM Saha noted that securing seats for B.Sc. nursing programs was once a major challenge, but advancements have led to the availability of about 50 seats in the college.

He further outlined the state’s progress in medical education, revealing that the number of MBBS seats has increased to approximately 400, with the Tripura Medical College seeking approval for 50 additional seats. If granted, the total will rise to 450, offering more opportunities for aspiring medical professionals and strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce.

“The addition of the IT lab will also benefit nursing students, equipping them with modern tools to enhance their education,” the Chief Minister added.

The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Director of Medical Education Dr. HP Sharma, Principal of AGMC Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, Additional Secretary of the Health Department Rajiv Dutta, Joint Director of the Health Department Dr. Souvik Debbarma, and Medical Superintendent of IGM Hospital Dr. Debashree Debbarma.

The event reflected the state government’s proactive approach to improving healthcare and education infrastructure, laying a strong foundation for a healthier Tripura.
